Ribbon Microphone Foil - 2.5m (micron)
2.5 micron aluminium foil for ribbon microphones
Size of sheet - 125 mm x 62.5 mm (5" x 2.5")
99% Aluminium. Made in Japan using a vapor deposition
method to achieve exacting tolerances.

2.5 micron foil is a standard thickness used in ribbon
microphones such as the Royer 121.
2.5 micron foil is easier to work with than thinner foils but
also more responsive than thicker foil.

When shipped our foils are packed in between sheets of
thin paper and two sheets of hard cardboard carton.
The package is then mailed in a bubble envelope.

CAUTION:
2.5 micron foil is extremely
fragile, handle it with care.
Use very sharp instruments to cut, otherwise you will
damage the foil.

Ribbon Microphone Foil - 4m (micron)
4 micron aluminium foil for ribbon microphones.
Size of sheet - 100 mm x 60 mm (3.94" x 2.36")
99% Aluminium.
Made in Japan using a vapor deposition method to achieve
exacting tolerances.

4 micron foil is used in ribbon microphones where a more
robust ribbon element is needed (such as Royer 121 Live)

On stage, ribbons may be exposed to excessive vibration,
wind or very loud sources which could cause a lighter
ribbon element to deform or tear.

Using a thicker ribbon it is possible to also use a higher
turns ratio transformer in the microphone to boost the
signal as thicker ribbons have lower resistance and
therefore noise problems can be avoided using a high ratio
transformer. 4 micron foil is also considerably easier to
work with than thinner foils.

When shipped our foils are packed in between sheets of
thin paper and two sheets of hard cardboard carton.

Made in Japan using a vapor deposition method to achieve
exacting tolerances.

1.8 micron foil is a standard thickness used in many
famous ribbon microphones such as the RCA 44 and 77
series. 1.8 micron foil provides better transient response
and signal output compared to thicker foils used in some
cheaper microphones.
Based on a 5mm ribbon width and 50mm length, with a
105mm x 52mm piece of foil at least 9 separate ribbons can
be cut.

When shipped our foils are packed in between sheets of
